Barcelona hydraulic tiles
Hydraulic tile was made it first time in the south of France at the middle of XIX century, but not was used until 60´s. Their name comes from the fabric process by the use of hydraulic preses and no cooking process.
The introduction of the hydraulic tile coincided with the rise of Modernisme at the turn of the 19th to 20th century. Where arquitects as Lluís Domènech i Montaner, Josep Puig i Cadafalch and Enric Sagnier used them with geometric shapes and floral patterns to adorn the floors of the recently constructed, high-end houses in the Eixample district of Barcelona.
